Different kinds of business cards

There are two common varieties of business cards. These are the paper postcards and the plastic cards. Both are used popularly and cater to different needs of users. The plastic cards are usually opaque and transparent.

a) Transparent business cards

These transparent plastic materials are also used to make business postcards. They are made from light weight plastic which can be tinted or clear. There are various choices of shades available for the same. Clear plastic cards are also popular. The clear plastic cards are transparent and are used or printed only on one side. The most commonly used cards have square sides, which are similar to paper cards. The use of color printing is limited to one color and there is also minimal artwork in the same.

b) Opaque or solid business cards

The plastic cards which are solid usually have rounded corners. They are printable on both sides and use multicolor, high resolution graphics, photography and other design options. Generally people assume that plastic business postcards have more value and avoid throwing them away. Plastic business cards are equally affordable and prove to be user friendly and portray a better image for the company. They also remain in circulation for a longer time.

Designing your business card

When it comes to designing a business card there are two options. Either design the card yourself; if you know flash or photo-shop or any other software for designing, the other option is to get it designed through professionals. But in both cases it should be kept in mind that the business card will reflect the business image and not personal styles. The logo of the company should be given along with the company motto. Vital information like company name, user name and designation and other contact details should be provided.

Changes in designing patterns of business cards

Over the past few years there has been a drastic change in the designing process of business cards. Earlier these cards would be black and white and would be printed on 1/8 size. But now users have options to choose from full colored business cards with color prints. The back can also be black and white. Improvement in digital printing and software has also enhanced the use of logos and other designs. There is also a coating added to these cards which provides a shiny finish to the same.
